Photography & Art Competition

Create, enter and help us raise funds

As part of our October breast cancer fundraising event at Maitland Framing Gallery, we’re inviting photographers and artists of all ages and experience levels to enter our Photography and Art Competition.

You don’t need to be a professional. Whether you’re an experienced creative, a hobbyist or a child who simply loves making art, we would love to see your work displayed in the gallery.

All entry fees will go directly towards our breast cancer fundraiser.

Photography Competition

Photography entries will be judged in the following age categories:

Adults: Ages 18+
Youth: Ages 12–17
Children: 11 & Under

Art Competition

We’ll also have a small art section open to original drawings, paintings and other suitable artworks.

Art entries will be judged in the following age categories:

Adults: Ages 18+
Youth: Ages 12–17
Children: 11& Under

Entry Fees

Applicable to both Photography & Art Sections

Adults aged 18+: $20 per entry
Youth aged 12–17: $15 per entry
Children 11 & Under: $10 per entry

Entry fees are non-refundable and will be donated directly to the fundraiser.

Each person may enter up to 5 pieces.

Theme

This is an open-theme competition, so entrants may submit a photograph or artwork featuring a subject of their choice.

All entries must be suitable for public and family-friendly display.

Preparing Your Entry

All entries must arrive ready to display.
Entries are limited to a maximum finished size of A3.
Photography entries must be printed.
All photographs and artworks must be mounted with matboard on foamcore backing at a minimum.
Framed entries are welcome, provided the complete finished piece does not exceed the A3 size limit.
Entries must be clearly labelled on the back with the entrant’s name, age category, phone number and title of the piece.
Please do not place personal contact details on the front of your entry.

Printing and mounting are not included in the competition entry fee and must be arranged ahead of the submission deadline.

Entries open: 10th September 2026
Entries close: 24th October 2026
Final day for printing or mounting requests: 16th October 2026
Entries must be delivered by: 26th October 2026
Competition displayed: 31st October
Fundraising event: 31st OCTOBER, 11AM TO 3PM AT 5 WOODFORD PLACE, THORNTON
Winners announced: 2:30pm 31st October 2026 at the event or 5pm online.
Entries available for collection: end of event - 12th Nov.

Entries received after the closing date will not be accepted.

Judging & Prizes

Entries will be judged by both judging panel as well as a anonymous public voting box.

Judges will consider creativity, composition, originality and the overall impact of each entry, with age and experience taken into consideration.

1st place: $80 cash + $50 Maitland Framing Gallery Voucher

2nd place: $50 cash + $50 Maitland Framing Gallery Voucher

3rd place: $30 cash + $50 Maitland Framing Gallery Voucher

11 & Under Photography:

1st place: $30 cash + $50 Maitland Framing Gallery Voucher

People’s Choice

All entries will be judged fairly and independently. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the results.

Entry Requirements

By entering the competition, you confirm that:

The submitted photograph or artwork is your own original creation.
You have permission from any identifiable person featured in your entry.
A parent or legal guardian has approved the entry if the entrant is under 18.
Your entry does not contain offensive, discriminatory or inappropriate material.
Your entry meets the size, mounting and display requirements.
Your entry does not infringe another person’s copyright or intellectual property.
AI-generated photographs and artworks will not be accepted.
Your entry may be displayed publicly at Maitland Framing Gallery throughout the competition.
Maitland Framing Gallery may photograph your displayed entry for competition, event and fundraising promotion. Copyright will remain with the creator.

Care and Collection

Reasonable care will be taken while handling and displaying all entries. However, entrants are responsible for ensuring their work is suitably mounted or framed (framing is optional) and ready for display.

All entries must be collected between after 3pm on 31st October & 12th November 2026.

Please contact us before the collection deadline if you need to make alternative arrangements.

All entries must be collected during the nominated collection period. If you cannot collect your entry during this time, please contact Maitland Framing Gallery to arrange an alternative.

Any entry remaining uncollected for more than 30 days after the final collection date will be considered abandoned and may be donated or disposed of. The gallery cannot guarantee ongoing storage of uncollected entries.

Deliver your completed entry to Maitland Framing Gallery before the deadline.

Your entry is not confirmed until the entry form and payment have both been received.
